Training Volunteers for a Community Literacy and Numeracy Programme

“Earlier is not better. All children accomplish milestones in their own way, in their own time.” – Magda Gerber

Klover Asia achieved another milestone last August when we embarked on the first of a series of training workshops for volunteers of a local community literacy and numeracy project to support disadvantaged primary school children.

Over 20 youth and adult volunteers participated in an interactive and hands-on 3-hour training which centred on the theme of “Understanding the Child as a Whole” – how the social contexts of children’s development intertwine with their learning and create a lasting impact.

The participants were put through a variety of instructional approaches e.g. lecture content, experiential activities and videos. To ensure the training content was relevant and applicable, the session also included realistic case studies and frequent discussion opportunities to surface and address challenges and questions which the volunteers have about volunteering.

This is the first of five training modules and we are certainly excited and extremely proud to be a part of this very meaningful initiative.
