Klover Asia was in the land of hornbills - Kuching (Sarawak) for a Teaching Reading Workshop. There, we conducted two highly-rated and well-received workshops: a 2-day workshop for teachers and a half-day workshop for parents. Organised by Yayasan Rakyat 1Malaysia and iM Sarawak, the workshops are part of the organisation’s initiative to develop good reading habits and inculcate a reading culture among schoolchildren. The workshops were attended by 30 teachers and 30 parents. Several staff members from the Padawan District Education Office were also present.

The workshop covered various strategies which the teachers could draw on to teach reading skills to students. The teachers also worked in groups to design reading lessons, incorporating what they had learnt; following which they presented their reading lessons. There was a lively and an engaging exchange of ideas.

The teachers were also introduced to digital books. A list of award-winning interactive books was used for reference. The teachers were excited about the workshop because it provided them with the opportunity to share ideas and teaching strategies, and also the challenges they faced.

“The course is very interesting and useful for teachers. All the theories should be applied or tried when teachers go back to the schools.”

Hii Ing Chan (SJK Chung Hua Batu Kitang, Malaysia)

“The instructor herself is very knowledgeable and her explanations are very clear. The input given are useful and should be applied by the teacher in his or her teaching and learning activities.”
